Ahhh really? That is a total bummer. You can't be serious. Not even a little bit, like five minutes worth at the driver meeting and each download...?

Just watched the videos again. I forgot about Andrews stylish win. Holy crap he braked late. I'm a late braker and I cringed watching the vids. Absolute hairball driving on the last two laps. Frickin awesome.

    Well, the Sheriff is out.

I'd really like to drive a Miata sometime, during a HPDE, just to see what it's like. Got any Miatas with minimal prep for rent?

Why am I suffering the very disturbing mental image of man love between Aaron and Emilio?

As most of you know, the level of awareness and courtesy in SV red tends to be a bit higher than most race organizations.

Speed Ventures does issue their own competition license. You either present your resume to Aaron or run in red group to get checked off.

I'm planning to finish out the season of miata challenge in the car's current spec, but will need to be making some changes for 2014 because I want in on this. Had basically told myself I had to just put my dreams of wheel to wheel on the back burner because there was no option that I could do with my uber-budget. SPM could change that. Not exactly looking forward to having to make a full overhaul to the car to back it down similar to what William did with Enzo did a few years back, but I wanna play!

    Prep guidelines *** DRAFT ***
This is what we have used with few addition and clarifications. For the first few races we'll be flexible as some cars are already built for other classes and need time to be adapted to SPM.
If you don't see it listed, it's not legal.

    SuperMiata prep guidelines:

    A. Engine
PTE/PTD legal 90-05 Miata with following adjustments:
    1) >=16.0 lbs/hp. Minimum allowable comp weight: 2100
    Maximum allowable whp: 140
Update/backdate, mix and match of any years 90-05 USDM Miata engine components allowed. Intake manifold may be ported and emissions equipment modified deleted. Non USDM "square top" intake manifold allowed.
All cars must comply with lbs/hp ratio regardless of weight or power.
    2) Long block must be 100% OEM, USDM. No blueprinted motors. Exceptions are Chinese made forged rods of stock dimension, at least 500g each and any valve spring for over rev protection. Max CR 10.0:1. Any competitors long block can be claimed in impound by another competitor for $3800. The buyer is responsible for immediate payment and removal of long block.
    3) Intake, ECU, exhaust and header are free.
    4) Oil cooler may be added and is recommended
    5) Engine mounts free but must remain in stock location
    6) Cooling system free. Radiator must retain OEM location and approximate size.
    7) Skunk2 throttle body #309-10-0200 and 309-10-0100 allowed. OEM throttle plate and shaft may be modified to improve strength.

    B. Suspension - Tires - Brakes
    1) Coilovers with a maximum of 1 damping adjustment allowed
    2) Spec tire is 225/45/15 NT01. Competitors may run 205/50/15 NT01. Wheels are free
    3) Diff mounts free
    4) Any one piece sway bars allowed
    5) any polymer suspension bushings allowed. No metal bushings or bearings
    6) Brakes may be updated/backdated in any combination of 90-05 components. Pads free. Brake ducts free
    7) Final drive ratio can be 3.9, 4.1, 4.3.
    8) OEM optional Torsen or Tochigi-Fuji differential allowed. No aftermarket diffs allowed.

    C. Body - Aero
    1) Vertical front air dam alowed. No splitters, canards or other front downforce producing modifications
    2) Trunk mounted ducktail spoiler of no more than 10" in length may be mounted at any angle. Ducktail must be 2D only, no significant curvature, fences or gurneys. Ducktail must not overlap trunklid edges and must be mounted within 4" of trailing edge of lid.
    3) Windshield may be substituted for.187 polycarbonate
    4) Any hardtop material and window thickness allowed. Must retain OEM shape
    5) Lightweight body panels allowed: hood, trunk, hard top, front fenders only.Must retain OEM dimensions.

Competitors are encouraged to submit dyno reports. SuperMiata officials may dyno your car at any event and provide appropriate throttle body restrictor plate to insure compliance with power to weight cap.
Competitors are encouraged to bring ballast weights in the event they are under weight. Ballast weight must be secured as follows: At least one 5/16" grade 8 nut/bolt with 2.0" diameter washer/backing plate of .090 thickness for each 15lb of weight.

My car is pretty close to these rules already. I'll be a little down on power but I'm just putting the final touches on my air dam and spoiler which might partially offset that. I'm happy those pieces are allowed in the rules.

I just got a 4.77 torsen put together I was going to try out too but not anymore. ACS was going to be the track it didn't work for anyways which is the event I'm planning on being at.

You also didn't include anything about 5 or 6 speed transmissions in the rules.

Wow, what happened to lap times? I'm not a fan of the "no aftermarket diff" rule. Can't we keep this simple for now and see it goes?

Just got to the engine part . . .

I'll leave it up to you guys. The 4.77 and 4.875 are deifinitely an advantage but expensive. Thus, the ban. If everyone wants FD ratios free, I'll do it. I'm just trying to keep costs down.
5-6 speed, same thing. At this power level the 5 speeds last as long as 6 speeds but cost 1/4 as much. The 6 spd is worth up to 1s on some tracks over a 5 spd so again, it becomes necessary to be competitive.
The restrictors will go a long way towards maintaining parity but the closer the cars are in specification, the closer the racing is.

    What say the group?

Comp weight is always post race.
    Delrin allowed, any polymer.
I may allow the JDM NB1 since it's 10.0:1. The JDM NB2 with 10.5:1 will have the most torque of any combo so it is an advantage. The problem is replacement OEM 10.5:1 pistons are non existent and used JDM NB2 motors are becoming harder to find. Sticking with USDM pistons keeps cost down and anyone can get them.
