what about trying to do it the same weekend as miata challenge but the other day? or both days?

still don't understand the exact format of event but, if multiple races are involved, I like the reverse grid for the 2nd race like the spec miatas have been doing.

I also prefer 2 day events. Towing is expensive and time consuming. I'd rather tow once for two days and do it less often.

please no events at Willow Springs, CVR or BW in the summer (second half of Jun, Jul, Aug and first half of Sep) just too old for 100 plus track days. BTW the weather this weekend looks good mid 80's....

I think a mix of single and double race weekends will work best. Points will be awarded for qualifying positions. There will be inverted grids at some events.
Most days, the SPM race will be the same day as MC. We'll try to make the points event happen on Sunday with Saturday being either heat races or open practice.

Here's an idea. Run qualifying during red group on Saturday to set the grid for Sunday. Two shorter races on Sunday with the second having an inverted grid. ??

I prefer 2 short races than 1 long race in one day.
always inverted grid for the 2nd race, this way, qualifying isn't a huge deal

    Saturday:
    1 practice
    1 qualifying
1 short race based on practice/qualifying

    Sunday:
    1 practice
1 short race, inverted grid based on Saturday's race.
1 short race, inverted again based on Sunday's first race.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    or

    Saturday:
    1 practice/qualifying
1 short race based on practice/qualifying
1 short race, inverted grid based on Saturday's first race.

    Sunday:
    1 practice / qualifying
1 short race, based on practice/qualifying
1 short race, inverted again based on Sunday's first race.

Is this in addition to a normal SV day because now it's starting to sound like a NASA race day schedule with only 3 sessions a day.

I thought it was going to be SV sessions all day plus race session in the afternoon or maybe even replacing one of those sessions with a race. practice and qualifying sessions are part of red group.

I have no idea. just thinking out loud....it all comes down to Aaron. if it is 4 sessions:

1 practice (this can be done in red group)
1 qualifying (also in red group)
1 short race based on practice/qualifying
1 short race, inverted grid based on the first race.

problem with this: 1. SPM racers will be running in 2 red sessions, taking away revenue stream for SV 2. SV will have to have 2 dedicated race sessions just for SPM.....
I think Aaron is less likely to go this route. more likely 4 dedicated sessions for SPM, call it "silver group", and allow red group drivers in first of 2 "silver groups" for extra $$$ ?

Aaron indicated that our race group would be in addition to our 5 standard red group sessions. Lost of track time. One race group meeting in the am immediately after Aarons standard meeting. Profit.

I might be in the minority on this, but I'd love to still be able to participate in MC and SPM on the same weekend. This could mean adding aero bits, removing ballast, etc. to be competetive in MC so it would be nice to not have every session of the day be a crucial part of the SPM quali/race process so that there are some sessions free to SPM participants to also clock times for MC, with some time to swap between setups.

I personally vote for one-day events so that it's easiest for everyone. Sometimes I can't get enough time off from work to do a two-day. Others have family constraints. But I seethe appeal of two-dayers.. Those who want to drive two days always have the other day with SV to use for practice, to compete in the SV TT, etc.

I wouldn't go to Chuckwalla from May to October. It is a 6-month-a-year track -- November to April.

Not sure about the other locals with extra cars but we have two cars ready, Crusher and Super. Crusher will definitely be the harder of the two to drive so I'll offer Super to

How many race days do you guys want for 2014?

Since it will be so much cheaper than traditional club racing, I'm thinking we can all budget for 2-4 more race days.
I'm thinking 14-16 race days. The tires should last 5-6 races without difficulty. Practice on other tires so 3 sets/year should be doable.
A few double weekends but mostly one race per weekend. Most will be concurrent with an MC. Points table not built yet but we'll probably allow 2-3 drops.

Somewhere in there will be a daylight 4hr enduro. At either end of DST period so we can run into the evening without lights while the weather is cooler.
Enduro will have 5 minute minimum pit stops. So no advantage for fancy fueling gear and minimal crew needed. We might even be able to loan team 949 racing enduro crew out as
    SPM community fuelers.

I really want to try the heat race format for some events. It was exciting at nationals both years to have to make it happen in 4-5 laps.

The safety question -- No Hans or equivalent head/neck protection device? Since the first goal is Safety, I would mandate that. Just my $0.02.

Now can someone make a how-to video on how to make and more importantly properly install both the airdam and rear wing? I'll happily shoot the video and I have airdam material as well as some fasteners that might work. Some close up photos at least might be helpful.

Looks like I'm going to need to save money for a new helmet for next season too.

Wasn't there a whole thread about this recently? Summary conclusion: the halo seat is to stop your head moving, the net is to stop your body moving
