WSIR 1.29.2xx; passmenow; IMSA GTO Camaro; GY slicks; 500whp; 2900lbs w/driver; July '13.

this video the car was geared top speed only 140mph.
next WSIR it'll have the correct 165mph gear.

That's a great laptime, a cool video, and a nice driving line. But are you hitting 140 in that lap? It seems like taller gearing might slow you down. (But then, I might be wrong -- with 500 at the wheels you're in a different world than me.)

I would change the line exiting T4, and hug the left 10 or 20 more yards.
    I choked T5.
T9 was already in 5th and out of gear end of pit in.
2nd time across start finish the car was 8k rpm 141mph on the Solo2.
Issue was 5th dopped only 400rpm, so replaced that gear with an 800rpm drop 5th gear.
Top speed now should be 153mph for Laguna Seca next 2 weekends.
I have a 165mph spur gear for Big Willow, cant wait to try it.
A 1.26 is my next goal.

Your exit from 4 looks fine to me. You could carry a little more speed through 4 if you entered further to the left and didn't turn in quite so soon. And I would say the issue with where the car ends up on the exit of 5 has more to do with track (and tire) conditions than anything else. The traction is a lot better if you stay to the left. I always try to stay on the left side, but then hope for the best if I get thrown farther out.

With your car, I'd be interested in looking at the speed you can carry with those slicks through 2 (specifically: early, middle, and just-before-the-late-apex speeds) and also the speed you can hold through the apex of 9. I know that for me, at least, the numbers I see during 2 will be a good predictor of the whole lap. And messing with the speed through 9 is (again, for me) the last piece of low-hanging fruit when it comes to lap times.

Every car and every driver is different, of course. I still say that your 1:29 is a really well-driven lap.

Thank you Jack for watching the video.
If only I could hit it again right now with your thoughts in mind...
I know there is a couple seconds there with good technique and normal attachments.

I was actually on pace for a high 24 on the hot lap the motor went. Was clocked by my crew. Sucks. It let go at 130mph+ still side loaded exiting 8, then caught fire when oil and coolant touched the exhaust/downpipe area while i am 45deg sideways...held it for 3-4s countering then went straight off about 100mph or so at entry of T9 since the turn tightens, i had no grip once oil/coolant hit my tires and went straight off into the hay bales and ditch. I am lucky I didnt roll over or hit the green wall 50-60ft away. Car surprisingly in tact in terms of exterior damage. Just splitter/splitter mounts/air dam/a bit of the lip took the brunt of the impact. My trunk and rear bumper got scorched enough to leaves burn marks. Front bumper 95% intact with no damage. 98% of car exterior wise was undamaged. Wheels and tires looked really good. Side skirts no damage.

I was able to put the fire out after exiting my death trap Halo seat/non-removable oem steering wheel with hans and helmet still on. Popped the hood open, grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out 85% of the fire. When my fire extinguisher died, fire crew was there to finish the job with a few seconds of their fire suppressant. Saved my car from burning to the ground.

What a ride. Glad I am okay and walked away without a single bruise/pain/sore. Glad I had all my safety stuff on and everything did its job.

Ouch, how many engines is that for you this year?

Fast lap though. And a good reminder I need to buy a fire extinguisher....

Great time!!! Was it worth it? Such is the life of an Evo time attack driver. Glad to hear you weren't hurt, and the car isn't toooooo bad.

I sold my track Evo as a rolling chassis when the motor blew for the 4th or 5th time (can't remember) and the gearbox went out at the same time. My other Evo makes a great daily driver -- I never track it, and it is bone stock except for tires and front brakes. It has 124,000 miles and nothing has ever broken on it. I expect it to last forever.

You can't put 440 whp out of a 1998 cc 4-cyl. and expect it not to go Kaboom!

3rd engine. 1st one was working but rebuilt, cuz it had low compession and slowly dying (2.5yrs from late 2010)
2nd engine died after 1 track day in May. Rebuilt done in July and it lasted til this Sun. 3months.
So I will be on my 3rd rebuilt engine after this one gets rebuilt. So 1 OEM engine and 3 rebuilt engines to date after this rebuild. FML.

Sorry guys, but you all will hate me. My Aim SOLO died on pregrid and gopro hero3 died as well. Didn;t turn on. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSED. More than the car getting on fire and engine blowing. That would make some awesome footage. My heroic attempts at getting out and saving it from burning to the ground. My 1:25.55 lap and the engine failure and sideways on fire countersteering with 6-8ft comet out the rear end. I got this...I got this...I got this (3s...) nope I don't got this ...fuuuuuuuu...this is gonna hurt. Whew, wasn't as hard of an impact as i thought. I see the green wall getting closer and closer...I hope this haybale and ditch can stop 100mph of 3100lb rolling mass. -_____-

Everyone thought i smashed into the green wall. Since there was obviously a big plume of fire and smoke and dust billowing after hitting the ditch/haybale.

I saw an Evo VIII or IX go straight off the exit of Turn 8 at the point just before you are about to turn in for Turn 9, at an OTR event a few years ago. He never even slowed down and raised a huge cloud of dust. Went head first into the green wall and broke a section of it out onto the road that takes you from WSIR to SoW. I went over there to check it out, and some guy from the track shooed me away and said "there's nothing to see here." Of course there was something to see there. As I understand it, driver was not hurt too bad. Car probably totaled.
